Fragments of Becoming
This artwork is a formal study of ancient Persian architecture and urban form, drawing from the spatial and material fragments of cities such as Yazd, Fahraj, Meybod, and Biabanak. Elements of the urban body are extracted from their original contexts and reassembled into a new composition, one that transcends conventional constraints and rigid spatial logic. The ground, abstracted as a singular entity, serves as the origin from which these fragments emerge, much like the built fabric of these cities, which rises organically from the earth itself.

Through fragmentation and recomposition, the work embraces transformation—liberating urban elements from their original purpose and allowing them to interact in unexpected ways. Yet, the reassembled form undergoes another stage of fragmentation, where seams and surface treatments reveal its composite nature. The experience of viewing the artwork mirrors the exploration of these historic cities, inviting the audience to move around it, uncovering its shifting perspectives, much like wandering through ancient alleys and hidden courtyards, feeding one’s spatial curiosity.

Exhibited at Spaghetti Junction, a group exhibition at Vinzenz Wien, Vienna, March 2025.
